Rapa Nui is a surf bar on Punta los Molinillos in Costa Calma, and it is more than a place to eat: alongside the food and drink it runs a surf school and Segway excursions, and publishes a weekly programme of what is on. kapé is a small coffee house tucked behind the shopping area of Costa Calma that does something no one else on the island does: it serves only coffee grown on Fuerteventura, roasted on the premises. On roasting days you can watch and ask, and the espresso, cappuccino and cold brew that come out of it are the reason people from other resorts drive over. It is also the breakfast place of Costa Calma - you put your own plate together from a list of small dishes, German and Spanish side by side, with waffles, cheesecake and croissants for the sweet half of the table, and tapas, sandwiches and burgers later on. Steak House San Borondón stands on Calle L.T.U. in Costa Calma. It keeps no website, so what it serves beyond the steak in its name is not described here. The name is worth knowing, because it is not a family name. San Borondón is the phantom eighth island of the Canaries — a landmass that generations of islanders reported seeing on the western horizon, that appeared on Spanish charts for three centuries, and that several expeditions sailed out to find and never did. It is now understood to have been a mirage. Naming a restaurant after it is a local joke of a particular kind. The hours differ at the weekend, which is the practical thing to note. Monday to Saturday it opens at one in the afternoon and runs to eleven at night, straight through. El Bar de Marko stands on Calle Risco Blanco in Costa Calma, and by review count it is the best-known place to eat in the town. L'AperiPizza is an Italian pizzeria in the Centro Comercial Plaza on Calle Punta Pesebre in Costa Calma, in the municipality of Pájara on Fuerteventura. Its own line for what it does is the best summary anyone could write: quality Italian pizza, because life is too short to eat a bad one. The numbers behind that are unusually good. Ninety-eight per cent of two hundred and forty-seven people recommend it, and the price band is the lowest of the three the island's restaurants are sorted into — a combination that is rare anywhere and rarer on a resort coast. There is seating outdoors and pizza can be collected at the kerb. The hours want reading before you set out. It is closed on Monday and on Tuesday, both. From Wednesday to Sunday it opens at one in the afternoon and runs to half past ten at night without a break. Two closing days in a row is unusual here and catches people out at the start of a week's holiday. Greek Village has been cooking Greek food in the Santa Clara area of Playa del Inglés for more than twenty years. It grew out of a Greek taverna in San Agustín and brought the same recipes a few kilometers along the coast. The menu is the classic taverna one: gyros, kleftiko - lamb roasted slowly until it falls off the bone - moussaka and grilled meats, with feta, Greek yogurt and Kalamata olives alongside, and a list of Greek wines to go with them. There is a children's menu. On weekdays the kitchen opens in the evening, at weekends from lunchtime; tables can be booked online at any hour, or by phone while the restaurant is open.

Porta Pizza is a pizzeria chain from Gran Canaria, and its Playa del Inglés branch is in the Los Molinos building on Avenida de Tirajana. The menu is long on pizza, made with carefully chosen ingredients, and there are sandwiches and hot dogs as well. It is a practical address for an evening at the apartment: the pizzas can be eaten in, taken away or delivered. On weekdays it opens for lunch and again in the evening until midnight; at weekends and on holidays the kitchen does not close in between.

Sawadee is one of three Thai restaurants of the same name in the south of Gran Canaria - the others are in Meloneras and San Agustín. This one is on Avenida de Gran Canaria in Playa del Inglés. Thai chefs cook in the style of Isaan, the north-east of Thailand: simple, strong flavors from fresh herbs, lime and fish sauce, with little sugar or butter. Pad thai, green curry (gaeng kiew waan) and pineapple fried rice are among the favorites, and a house platter brings several dishes together. The terrace is colorful and relaxed, the bar mixes cocktails, and everything on the menu can also be taken away.

Buffet Las Camelias on Avenida de Tirajana has been feeding Playa del Inglés for more than fifty years, and it does so on a grand scale: an all-you-can-eat buffet of over 300 Canarian, Spanish and international dishes. Much of it is cooked in front of you.
